Costa Rica
First of all.. the link to all the pictures.. http://good-times.webshots.com/album/562184485UmfbKZCosta Rica was beauitful, we got to do so much in the week we were there and it went entirely too quickly. It was so warm there, I probably miss that the most! and the people.. they were sooooo friendly.. like honestly no halbo espanol, but they didn't care they were soo polite and did their best to accomodate us.. which isn't how it should be I SHOULD know spanish if i'm going to a spanish speaking country, I would like to learn it.. it would be quite useful. I did try though and I picked up on quite a few words, don't ask me to spell them though cuz apparently I butcher it :) haha. So what we did there.. We went to San Ramone and the cloud forest where we stayed most of the week and then went off traveling for a couple days at a time, it was so well planned and so much fun. Walking around in Costa Rica I stuck out like a sore thumb.. I was like the only blonde there.. and our first day we got out and started walking around and these younger guys were working on a house and they stopped dead and stared at me and I kinda shrunk back. Lisa was like "its ok you're like a delicacy to them, they don't see many blondes, they all flirt, its all in good fun" haha. I just felt self concious after they pointed out the fact that I was the only blonde haha I didn't scream tourist! First we went to Termale Spa (which unfortunately is not pictured because we used a water camera which of course.. was not used up.. haha so who knows when I'll see those pictures) but anyway we spent 4 hours relaxing in the natural hot springs, it was amaaazzzinngg and sooo relaxing, i didn't want to move... we even ate lunch in there.. haha chicken salad w. homemade tortilla shells and pina coladas Mmmm it was soooo good (thats another thing I didn't have a single bad meal it was all sooooo good..) and we stayed the night. The next morning we ventured to Aerenal Volcano which is in Lafortuna (butchered I appologize, I sound things out! haha). It is an active Volcano and if you go at night you can see lava flowing down it. It was such a gorgeous day there, perfectly clear, we got amazing pictures, it was quite breath taking. Many people said Aerenal is usually difficult to see, its usually too cloudy, but we got to see it in its entirety, the tip and everything, it was such a great day. Actually the entire trip we lucked out and had amazing weather the entire time. Joanna, who drove us around, she said, "You're lucky you get to see the lockness of Costa Rica!" it was great! Then we spent a day back at San Ramone and left again. We went to Jaco which is a touristy beach of Costa Rica. I mean it was beauitful but that was so Americanized I didn't much like it there.. I got sunburned really bad there too. haha. Actually I may have gotten my chest scarred.. so now.. my ankles and back are scarred from sunburn from the Bahamas and now my chest is scarred from Costa Rica.. just a little something to remember the trips! haha. Also, at Jaco about 10 mins away Joanna and I went Zip lining. I was soooo freaking nervous.. but let me tell you.. our guides... so good looking and flirty, makes it all the better.. after the first jump I was fine and enjoyed zip lining through the rain forest canopy.. ah it was soo amazing and great, I had so much fun!! My abs KILLED me for two days after that.. it must of just been how you had to hold your body, made me use my lower abs.. I wish I could do that every day.. I'd look amazing haha. From Jaco we went to a little private beach where we went swimming.. it was soo pretty there.. I have like one picture of this beach and I don't think its up on my webshots page... but it was soo pretty and I had so much fun swimming in the ocean and playing in the waves! I don't think I've ever really done that.. I mean in the Bahamas I went snorkeling so obviously I did.. but its diffferent when you're just chillin' jumping through the waves! Oh man the rip tides, they were crazy strong.. fighting against them was quite the work out! Then we checked in at our hotel, swam there, and then went to another beach to see a sunset, it was soo nice.. I love sunsets. Then after that we went to San Manuela National Park.. It was gorgeous there.. and we got to see white faced monkies.. it was quite amazing how close they came to us, one even tried to pee on us!! lol. The views were great.. the pathway.. not so much haha but what are you gonna due.. hiking in sandals.. not a good idea.. haha... but i didnt want my sneakers to get dirty!! :P So I was looking down where I was walking trying to find good stones to step on and everything.. and i was holding onto trees to help support myself, right? so then all the sudden I step touch a tree and JUMP back and I was like son of a .. wtf.. and I looked.. its this tree.. its like SPIKEY like crazy long and thick spikes I've never seen anything like it.. it was teired all the way up the tree.. so scary looking.. then my hand started to hurt.. and of course noone else saw the tree so they probably thought i was crazy but I had pokes where it happened and they swelled over a little.. and I was like "it was poisonous was it?" they're like "nah" haha obviously they were right.. ah my hand hurt so bad tho. But its ok, it was worth it.. we saw the cute little monkies!! hehe. Then that was pretty much the trip.. it was nice and relaxing and soo much fun, everyone got along and it was nice being tehre, i'm greatful I got to go.. it was a great experience!! | | Thursday, June 21st, 2007 | | 8:06 pm |

Sunbun's Lesson, Confetti, Tessa
Thursday Sunbun and I had a lesson. It went really really well, he was great. Better than our past two lessons. However, I think it is only because Bobbi wasn't focusing so much on my hands, shes usually telling me to shorten my reins and to keep them really short, I shortened em when I first started at the length that I normally rode at and really focused on controlling him with my legs so she wouldn't need to tell me to shorten my reins, because maybe she wouldn't notice? haha. It wasn't so damn hot either, so that was nice, I wasn't ready to keal over by the end of my ride. But yeah, overall, it was a long, but good lesson. Then today I rode Confetti this afternoon. They brought flower boxes and put them along the outdoor arena where they keep their jumping poles... I thought Confetti was going to have a heartattack.. that's what I was expecting anyway. So I took him out and Reuger was being ridden and I walked him past them and he didn't even look at them, perked his ears toward them but didn't try to run backwards or anything. and Sandy said that that was amazing that he didn't even care. I was like Just watch when I get on him and start asking him to work he'll have a nervous break down.. So I got on him and he was fine, again, didn't even look at them. This is amazing for this horse. He didn't even look at the barrels, that freak him out every single day! Then Sandy told me that he was supposed to have been started on an anti-histamine (spelled wrong, I know lol) and thats probably why he was being so tired and not really caring about anything. I was like I'm glad you told me cuz Bobbi didn't and I woulda called her telling her there was something wrong with her horse! He was completely out of character. He's always been somewhat lazy, but he was really dragging today. We didn't do much, we did lateral work, lots of walking, trotting serpatines, constantly changing direction and a little canter work. He was awesome. It was probably the best ride I've ever had on him. He kept his head down the entire ride, was round and had some collected moments. It was good! Then I gave him a long long long bubble bath =) haha he seemed to like it.. then I let him munch on grass.. the good stuff, not the pasture crap thats all dead cuz we've had like no rain. Then I turned him back out and he took off galloping, so he seemed to be a little happier. Normally, he'd just stand in the run in shed waiting to come in.. hes usually there most of the day, even when noone else is around. So i'm glad he went down to the grass pasture with everybody else for a half hour. Then Sunbun was right there so I brought him in and groomed him and took care of his feet. I really don't want to repeat what happened last year and get a really bad crack in his front hoof. So I just want to stay on top of that. I was going to get Tessa and ride her.. but I noticed her running around in the pasture with the girls and she was clearly lame still. I asked her owner and she said that its her hooves, they're all breaking. She said it could be from the riding on the pavement, since she has bad hooves to begin with and wasn't normally ridden on the road. She said shes always had bad hooves. Maybe she needs shoes, but I don't make that decision. I think I may go buy some hoof cream or something for her hooves and try to strengthen them up. That may be all she needs. Since I don't think her original owner ever used anything on her hooves or recently for the past year atleast that I know of. So, we'll see if that helps her out! So tomorrow I'm just gonna give her a beauty treatment, its supposed to be hot, so i'm sure a bath would be nice. I'm sure once she gets shod she'll be better, she could also just be due to be shod. But her owner said she may be due soon, but she didn't think she was. So we will see what happens! Took lots of pictures today. Of course, the one day that I have my camera they don't come galloping up from the grass pastures. Pfft. I always try to take my camera, but everything interesting that happens always happens when I don't have it! Of course! haha But now i'm off to bed, cuz I have to be up at 4:30 yay. I love mornings. haha. Not really. | | Sunday, June 10th, 2007 | | 9:17 pm |
Sunny
Sunbun was greeattt today! :) He was a little spooky (heading into the corner going to the right toward the neighbors house...its weird the horses don't like going in that direction).. but then after about 15 minutes I was bored.. so What the heck. I set up a raised cavaletti.. well first i made it into probably the worlds tinest "x" haha.. and he could walk over it.. obvioulsy absolutely no height to it.. he didn't care it didn't phase him one bit.. so I made it just a regular raised cavaletti.. he knocked it over the first time.. and then hes like Oooh you want me to lift my feet OVER it? haha so the second time he jumepd it.. and the third time trotted over it.. I mean it was only raised, again he coulda walked it.. then in the other direction he trotted it a couple times then the last time he jumped it sooooo nicely.. I mean like i said its not really jumping.. i Mean... he didn't HAVE TO jump it.. it was barely off the ground he coulda just trotted over it.. but he was all happy his ears perked forward n what not.. it was fun :). Maybe I can convince Bobbi to let me try and jump him..just to switch it up a bit. But she'll probably say no. .so I'll just stick to doing cavalettis and my fake "x"'s haha. :P ahh lightening.. hopefully we a fair amount of rain tonight! | | Friday, June 8th, 2007 | | 7:45 pm |
Tessa
So I went and helped bring in horses around 4.. then I hosed off Bud cuz he was sweating and Marie asked me if hes sweating in his stall to hose him off and I said I would (she ended up coming later and I was like ahh I already hosed him! she was thankful, but I felt bad cuz she was in her work clothes haha so she obviously just stopped by to hose him off.. so she gave me her phone number so I could call if I did hose him off) Then I rode Tessa, didn't do much she pretty much had a photoshoot with her haha and worked on flexing.. and then I went on a trail ride with Laura and her student on Brittany... there was something dead.. on the path.. it was disgusting.. it was just laying flat... I was afraid it was going to move when we walked by.. but it didn't.. it definetly was dead..hahah so laura was like ewwww and jumped on the other side of Brit (she was handwalking her)and trotted her past it hahaha..it was quite funny.. but as me and Erin always say.. we need to carry a camera when we're around laura... we always miss funny things that could win us money on America's funniest videos! haha. But anyway Tessa was awesome on the trail, actually when I rode her in the outdoor she was pretty good too..as soon as I got on her she was much slower.. it wasn't like speedy, it was niccce. Which is good! haha. Then she got a nice long bath with citronella shampoo and then sprayed with fly spray and then put away for the night :) Erin left for Ireland today :(.. its going to be awful quiet without her around the barn for like 2 weeks. haha. So I came home.. to find my AIM up.. and this SN up of someone who I've never talked to in life.. went to schoool with him but never once talked to him.. well My mom decided to screw around and say Hi to him (it automatically notifies you when someone goes online, away, offline, ect) so she clicked on the screen that notifies you and said Hey whats up? and the away was "Smoking some weed" I was like dear god my mom is going to think I talk to him.. so it took lots of persuading that i graduated with him but have never talked to him in my life.. infact don't really like him.. but he is our neighbors friends.. haha Thank God he wasn't really tehre he woulda been like "who the f*ck are you?" and thrown a fit Thank god it wasn't tim.. haha.. it was his friend.. haha jeeze.. of all ppl his away just had to be "smoking weed" actually said smoking some grass hahaha. how embarassing. So then I had to block this kid cuz i've never talked to him before and I don't want him to msg me and be like who the hell are you. haha. jeeze. she creates such messes :P On a better note me and my friend from HS are supposed to hangout on Sunday.. haha I've actually literally hungout with him once.. in the 5-6 years i've known him..(since 9th grade, one of the only ppl I still keep an effort to talk to) and then seen him around college and hungout and talked to him but its different.. so we might hangout we'll see.. maybe not.. lol it'd be nice if we did we talk online just about every day otherwise I txt him and its not like he doesn't go to the same school as me. haha. hes so difficult. and now i'm just rambling waiting for my pictures to upload from today so I can post them. lol. I looked at sunbun today and my head was pounding from the heat.. i was like.. nahh.. I'll ride you tomorrow or Sunday maybe.. he really is a great horse he's so sweet, I love riding him, he really is a neat horse... photos are almost donnne...lol ( Tessa, Monkey, my cat ) Current Mood: anxious | | 11:04 am |
Sunbun
I haven't been riding too much this week.. I don't know why.. On Sunday I got to ride Bud, hes adorable, such a sweet horse and really fun to ride! He's very smooth and has a great canter. He's so hard to get into a frame, it takes only your thighs.. but so much thigh it burns haha. But oh well, I got him in a frame which was good and his owner was happy that we got along since i'll be riding him while shes on vacation. I know Monday I didn't want to be around because I didn't feel like seeing Bobbi because she annoyed me with a couple comments.. I don't know, obviously a great trainer/person/instructor, all the above, greeat person, but she looks down on people entirely too quickly. It annoys me and her comments annoy me sometimes, I just didn't feel like being there on monday. I was going to go back later that night.. but I opted to study for chemistry instead. Tuesday... I just didn't get there... I didn't want to be there again. haha. For other reasons.. oh well, I was, again, going to go later at night.. but got distracted by studying and was supposed to go out.. but ended up not being able too.. you'd think this studying would help with my test taking? Nope. haha. So Wed, I finally made it to the barn. I was like.. wellll.. I haven't ridden Sunny since our last horrible lesson last thursday.. So I got him out and rode him. After about 20 minutes of walk/trot/canter on a fairly long rein he was really good, he may not of been in the best frame, but his head was down and he was carrying himself. But then I got bored.. haha I don't know.. I have plenty of excersises I could of done with him, but I was just bored.. then I saw cavalettis sitting out.. so I was like.. eh what the heck.. so I got off of him and drug them to the side of the arena (there's a deep rutt so they were kinda raised, made him use his back more) We haven't done these in about a year.. I haven't jumped in about 2... so i'm sure I didn't look nice in my two point, but I hate posting over them.. ANYWAY, I think he enjoyed this, it was something different, not just serpetines or circles or smaller circles, he lifted his hooves up so much when he went over them, haha I really think he loved it.. going to the right.. he actually jumped the last one.. It was nice.. I wish I could jump him, I think he'd love it, it'd be a change of pace for both him and me. I really don't think he likes dressage, hes not good at it.. not because he doesn't want to be.. hes so long its hard for him to get into a frame.. and Bobbi keeps telling me shorten the rein shorten the rein and it drives him CRAZY thats why our lessons are so bad. He gets pissed and extremely obstinent and balligerent when we're in lessons.. she says I use too much hands.. but its him yanking my hands every which direction trying to get rid of the hold.. I don't know.. I think he should be ridden in something he'd actually excell at, I think he'd be much happier. I think he'd love hunters and jumping. But not my horse to decide. Then I went to the barn near my house that has the 4 TWH. We were getting on Glory, the mare, who also hasn't been ridden in three years. She was good, soooooo stubborn though. We'd stop and she'd start dancing around, so I'd circle her and halt again and she was fine. But then when I'd ask her to walk she'd either try to spin the other way or back up real fast, so when she backed up real fast I boxed her so hard and she went forward when she spun, I spun her back in the direction I wanted her to go. By the time I was done riding her she was doing better, hardly putting up a fit, her trot is much more bouncy then boss's.. I like Boss in general a lot more. haha. So the other girl got on her.. and was walking her.. and halted her.. and could not get her to walk forward for the life of her, she was boxing her.. she could not get her to budge, I guess she knew she couldn't make her.. lol But she got better as she did more of halt-walk excersises. So when they were ok I went up and groomed Ace, my favorite there, I got some of his dreadlocks out and gave him a nice hair cut.. APPARENTLY hes allergic to flies?! haha..so hes on anti-histamines twice a day and they make him itchy.. so he has bald spots on his chest, side and the top of his tail is bare from itching... I feel bad.. I've never heard of a horse being allergic to flies before, thats gotta suck.. thats like being allergic to the sun. haha. But the owner has tried everything and if anyone has any ideas, hes willing to try just about anything. Then I groomed Rex, hes adorable too, so sweet, a little more pushy though. I got most of his dreadlocks out and groomed him real nice. They all have shiny, soft coats. Rex is a little chubby though. hah. All the mean time Boss was screaming from his stall. So finally I went to Boss and was grooming him and the owner goes "Since the last time you guys rode him his personality has completely changed, he used to be stand offish but now hes always begging for attention, he must of loved being worked/grooming, ect" Haha, hes so cute and sweet! Thursday I avoided the farm again. 1) Had Chem test.. no clue how I did.. better than all my Chem I tests, I think, I hope! haha.. 2) I had a dentist appointment, I don't know if my dental hygenist was new or not but she was jabbing my gums so hard they were bleeding and the dentist was like "Well your gums are a little puffy" I was like maybe if she wasn't scraping them every second with the pic! ah I was sore all night, so I really didn't want to go. So No lesson, honestly kind of nice. Today I am planning on riding Tessa and Sunbun later, we'll see if that happens! =) | | Saturday, June 2nd, 2007 | | 8:09 pm |
my day off yesterday.
Had yesterday completely off from work and school, it was soooo nice! haha, Slept in, showered, cleaned car and room, but yet again managed to do everything else but school work haha, oh well... I have all weekend but I NEED to start making index cards now so I can start studying and doing practice problems.. but I have umm a procrastination problem, surprise. So L calls me whilst I was cleaning and goes, "you know my friend who have the four tennesee walkers by you?" I was like "yeah" she goes "well he asked if me and my husband could help him with one of his horses, cuz this girl wants to ride the one, but because he hasn't been ridden in a while they just need some help but I laughed and said we have only ridden a handful of times and I suggested you because you live so close and need to meet him before he goes away anyway(I will be watching his farm for a week or so when he goes away)" I was like "Ok, I can do that, what time?" so she calls me back and tells me quarter to seven. So then I decide to go to the barn and ride Liberty and Tessa. Liberty was soooooo goood, she was very vvery good, so much fun, shes always fun :P She didn't really get hot cuz we just walked/trotted and did leg yields (she does them so much better than Sunbun.. well sunny we can hardly get them lol) and turn on forehands. So I hosed her off and went to get Tessa. I rode Tessa for about 15 minutes up and down the hilly pasture by where her stall is. She did well, I just didn't want to overkill the hill work, she was probably like dear God make her stop haha, I'm sure it was tough for her, but it'll gradually get better. Some of the hills were really steep so we went diagonally down, but doing it maybe twice a week should work out well and she'll have muscle in no time! And even be able to trot up some of the small hills. She probably could now, I'm just not in a rush, so why hurry. So then after those two I went to his barn and its gorgeous, his house, land, barn, everything. He has 50 acres, not sure how many the horses are on but all together he has 50, he has about three pastures that link together and then meet up at the barn and he keeps them out pretty much 24/7. So he goes "Did L tell you what was going on?" And I Was like "Well she said you just needed help doing like ground stuff" and He goes, "And possibly some riding" I'm thinking.. ok this horse hasn't been ridden in three years.. lol.. I'm not a trainer.. but we'll see how it goes.. so we lounged him and apparently when the girl went to ride him last time he just pretty much ignored her and was like on mission to not listen haha so I guess she had issues stopping him and slowing him down.. which I think are kind of essential lol, but other than that he was good, but I mean he hasn't been ridden in 3 years(They were his wife's horses and she passed away three years ago from cancer I believe :\ and he doesn't ride, hasn't for like 7 years?). The horse's name is Boss. He is a 14 year old tennesee walker, registered racking horse. I've never been on a truly gaited horse before I was just thinking.. this is going to be interesting. So, I got on him and I walked and halted him right away.. I was like.. oh.. hes fine.. haha he had absolutely no issues.. he was great.. he was a lil rusty on turning, but with work he'll be fine... he was sooo sweet and good. So I went to trot him but he did his racking.. and I was like omg I absolutely love this.. I could do that allll day it was sSOOOO comfortable and nice.. and he got pretty fast at one point I Was trying to get a regular trot but it kinda felt like a canter but not really it was kind of awk. and so I went back up to them all and his owner was like "wow you had such a nice canter" I was like "He was cantering?" hahaah Cuz it didn't feel like it! But he was soooo funn.. I absolutely loved riding him so I hope he lets me ride him again. But then the girl gets on him and shes kind of new to riding (Shes actually on a year internship over here.. shes from France, I love her accent.. haha someone called her cell phone and she started talking French it sounded so pretty.. notta clue what she said tho haha) so I imagine thats where the trouble came in. Cuz the owner made a comment "he can tell when someone knows what they're doing or not" and if shes used to like lesson horses its completely different when you ride a horse that hasn't been ridden in three years.. haha so I told her just make sure to use your thighs if you want him to slow.. and if you want him to halt make sure to open your chest, sit deep in your seat, and use your thighs.. so she got on him and I told her to stop him and she did, so after that she was great, she just needed to figure out to use her seat to stop and pulling doesn't do it. She did the racking thing and loved it too and then she got a little canter as well. He was a great horse, i absolutely fell in love with him. He has another horse, a mare, thats trained. But she foundered a month ago, but the vet was up today and said she was good to go, so he said in like a week he wanted her to be lounged. So we'll see, maybe she'll be just as good and I can ride her with the other girl, that'd be fun! We'll see, they're older and they are trained.. they just need to remember what they're there for. I'm sure they have some fun, it gets them doing things and some extra attention. Then he has two more horses (All four are tennesee walkers) but they're not even saddle broke, 9 and 10 years old. They've had them since they were foals. I imagine his wife fell ill before she could seriously work with them. Sweetest horses.. Ace and.... a black one.. haha I Can't remember his name!!! Ace is sooooo sweet, he is absolutely drop dead gorgeous, i've never seen a horse so red. He has the sweetest expressions as well (hes the one thats 9) it's a shame hes not saddle broke. I think he wants to send them to training so he can sell them. But I absolutely fell head over heals for him, hes just so gorgeous, his mane is a little tangled, so I think the next time i'm there i'll take him out and spend some time grooming them (he handles them and does ground work, they're just not saddle broke). I'm so excited, they're so beautiful and sweet and love attention and don't seem as food motivated as sunbun. haha. aw. I'm excited. He also has three afghan hounds.. wow they're gorgeous and I absolutely love their coats (they're shaved though, but they have like bangs over their eyes, aww adorable!) and there's one, Jordan, ah so adorbale, so so affectionate and they're not like labs which are "omg love me" jump jump jump jump they're more like royalty, they walk with their heads high and they walk daintely (thats spelled wrong haha)and he's so quiet he just comes up to you and looks at you and you just have to scratch his head and he loves it! aww hes cute. haha. I'm so excited. I hope he lets me ride Boss some more since I live like litterally maybe 2 minutes away. It was so fun and he seems like he'd be a good trail horse, so maybe I can take him around his 50 acres, it'd be fun. Somewhere to actually go. haha. Oh and we were talking in the house and he was having a steak dinner and asked if I wanted to stay for dinner (I don't really like red meat too too much so I said I had to go cuz I had to work early) ANWAY so we started talking and he took out steaks and they were giant brand and I was like "oh I work there" haha and hes like "Oh yeah?" I was like "Yup but I work early hours cuz I do pricing" hes like "Ah I see" and I was like "And they're even earlier now that I have a summer class in the middle of the day" and hes like "what class?" I was like "Chem II" and He laughed he goes, "that's great! All three of us are chemist (there was a guy there too, I imagine its who the girl was staying with?)" and I Was like "Oh yeah? I hate chemistry" and we got into a big discussion. lol. How nice, a chemist, maybe they can help me. But I think i'm pretty much a lost cause. I hate chemistry and they're like "the general chemistry classes do suck, you never use them, but you'll have fun in organic chem" I think i'll like Organic Chem more as well, but I need to pass Chem II first! haha so we shall see! Well, that was my day :). | | Wednesday, May 30th, 2007 | | 9:31 pm |
Allergies
Blah, I woke up feeling like crap this morning. My throat is all clogged and my nose is runny and I have a stuffy headache.. argh its awful. A couple weeks ago I got this and it lasted a few days and I was fine.. everyone told me it was just allergies.. so I think it is just allergies.. I've never had allergies a day in my life... blah... so if this is the start it really sucks. I slept in today yay no work. Then I had school.. that dragged on and on and on and we have a test next thursday? I think he said.. haha argh, I need to start making notecards there's just soooo many formulas.. its stupid.. then you have to manipulate the formulas for the exceptions.. argh. Why can't it just be all the same? haha. blah. Then I went to the barn and helped bring in horses.. it was soo hot out.. I didn't think it was so bad but when I started walking them in I was like ready to die. I wasn't going to do much tonight I was just going to walk/trot and mainly do leg yields n such with Confetti. However, Confetti had a different idea, he was ridiculous. I don't know what got into him, i've never had a bad ride on him. I mounted him, he was fine.. there were jumps set up from a lesson he was fine.. we walked past the corner with barrels he was fine, so then I gathered the reins up and he had a coniption fit we walked by the barrels and he flipped out and backed up like he does, so I kicked him forward.. yeah he did not listen to my leg at all.. i boxed him and boxed him and he would not go forward. so then we went to the less scary end of the ring, he was distracted the entire time and I could not get his attention! So we cantered cuz he loves to canter and always comes down more collected and round.. it worked for like a second.. and then I felt even more sick then when I first got on.. so I probably shouldn't of ridden. But whatever.. so then we just worked on the scary corner and I got him over that.. but as soon as I gathered the reins up he got all nervous again.. so we ended on some turn on the haunches, turn on the forehand and backing up and then just cooled out on a loose rein. He hates change, so perhaps it was the jumps being set up that put him on edge, but he didn't spook at them! Argh. Hes crazy! haha.. but oh so cute and fun to ride.. most of the time. Then I gave him a long bath and he was happy again. I don't know what got into him, maybe it was just the heat and I felt like crap and was being lazy too? I don't know. Next time will be better. | | Monday, May 28th, 2007 | | 8:46 pm |
Can horses associate bad experiences with names?
Ok.. sooo I know horses can associate OBJECTS with bad experiences.. because I read this book "Horses in Translation" and the author worked with a horse that every time it saw a red hat it'd freak out..they tried a blue hat.. it was fine.. but a red hat.. he'd flip out.. so thats an object.. but do they know a name? I had off from school and only worked for four hours today.. so I asked Erin if she wanted to take Clover on a trail ride around the pasture.. I rode Tessa western just to see how she went and I love western saddles :)lol we walked around the pastures..then turned around and went back the other way. She was perfect the entire time.. i stopped her a bunch of times, slowed her and she was great, really really good.. she stood for as long as I wanted to and then walked off calmly when I asked her to.. Then we were back to the entrance to the outdoor.. and we stopped and were talking to L from across the road..so L walked over to use and Tessa did a kinda scream and struck out.. I was like TESSA and she stood just fine.. and then L said, "Just a heads up BJ is coming to pick up her saddle" and seriously... a second later she started backing up going forward adn bucked and reared! I was pissed that she did that to me.. she seriously has never even tried it with me.. I Mean her rear wasn't straight up in the air or anything.. but it was like ya know up haha and her buck was just a lil buck.. but still.. I walked her forward and stopped her and then walked her back to the barn and halted her.. got off and went in the arena, Erin came in with Clover too.. and I got on her she walked off nice and slow..we trotted a circle in both directions.. meanwhile BJ stopped by the tackroom grabbed her saddle, L said Hi to her and she left.. so then I asked Erin if she wanted to go back around the pasture.. So we did.. again she was perfect.. I halted her on the way back and perfect.. she was perfectly fine.. its so weird.. I mean we were just standing.. what could off possibly set her off?! And it was seriously immediately after L said BJ and she started getting frisky.. I don't know.. is that possible? Can a horse associate bad experiences with names? Then I put her in an unused stall while Erin hosed Clover off.. I cleaned the saddle/Bridle really nice and I was like "Do you have time? Do you want to see how she is clipping?" So Erin let me use her Clippers and she held Tessa while I clipped her.. I turned it on and off a couple times to see how she would react to the sound.. she just looked at me like Are you going to clip me or not? So, this is only the second horse i've clipped, I did her whiskers, gave her a bridle path and her fetlocks and her ears, she stood perfectly for it! Better than freaking Sunbun (we have to twitch him for his ear part :\) Then I gave her a long bath with citronella shampoo.. so hopefully it'll help keep the flies away from her.. she stood perfectly in the washstall as well. Shes such a smart horse... and picks up on things so quick.. Oh and when I was in the arena with her.. I asked her to do a turn on the haunch.. and she got a couple really good steps! I was suprised.. I was just screwing around.. so someone must of taught her that. But because she is so smart.. thats why I wonder if she could associate bad riding with the previous rider.. I don't know.. Then I went to see Pirates of the Caribean III it was soooooooooo goooood. But entirely too long! haha exactly three hours and not as good as the other two, but still good none the less! Then it was soo nice out I got home and I was like I want to go back to the barn! So I rode Confetti.. and he was really good.. really nice canter to the right.. to the left it was speedy, but he didn't break at all which is good. He had issues when I was mounting him.. first of all it was in the scary corner with barrells adn then Liberty kept cantering (which looked really really good!) past him, wasn't close or anything, but she would act up a little and it got him nervous, I don't know if it made him feel trapped or what.. so I had to take the mounting block (Jara's seat, SORRY! haha) to the middle and mount him.. but other than that he was really good. After we were done cantering he got really round, hes always so much better after you canter him.. I love him hes a cutie issues and all! Now.. its time to shower, sleep and work 5-11.. fun fun! Then school 11:20-3:15 :\ Crap.. I have homework to do sometime in between there.. haha. whoops, guess I shouldn't of ridden the second horse, oh well! =) haha. | | Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007 | | 8:49 pm |
School
Argh, so my summer class started Monday! haha I thought it didn't start until the beginning of June, obviously I was wrong! So its a good thing my schedule at work is flexible and the manager probably loves that i'm cutting my hours.. but I have to work 5am-11am to get any hours there.. and then I have class 11:20-3:15.. it sucks. haha. It makes for a longgg longgg day. On Monday.. my first day of class.. I worked 5am-11am.. then went to class 11:20-2 (it was a lab day so we got out a little early) and rode Sunbun and Tessa.. yeah.. that may not of been the best thing to do.. hah.. I was passed out.. I took a sleeping pill so I could get a good nights sleep, like a sound one.. it was Tylonol PM.. haha yeaaah can't say it doesn't work! Well I got a full 8 hours sleep.. woke up at 4:20.. hit snooze.. and either slept through snooze or turned the alarm off.. and then I woke up at 5:40 (Tech. i'm scheduled at 6am) I was like oh shit! Rolled out of bed, burshed my hair/teeth, through on my uniform and was out the door. So I ended up working 6-11.. so cut my hours by yet another hour! Argh. So my summer class I should mention is Chem II.. haha yeah.. I struggled with Chem I class because I didn't liket the professor.. I tried so hard to focus.. but it was sooo boring.. I tried so hard to study.. didn't help.. don't know how I passed the class.. ANYWAY.. My Chem II teacher.. yeah the same as my Chem I teacher! ARGH, hopefully I'll do better this semester cuz the class is Monday-Thursday.. so I'll be there daily.. as opposed to Chem I which was only two nights a week. So we shall see.. I can't drop the class and hope for a better professor next spring.. (they only offer in Spring/Summer I) because I need this class to continue onto the courses I need for my bio major.. I need it for Organic I..and then Obviously I need Organic I before I can take Organic II.. and I need Chem II for Intro to Molecular and Cellular biology.. blah! So hopefully I do well.. atleast its only a month! ahh counting down the days..2 days down! only like 28 to go. =) | | Sunday, May 20th, 2007 | | 7:19 pm |
Extreme House Makeover
So I was watching the beginning of Extreme House Makeover tonight.. and.. this women was a social worker or something like that and she adopted a 19month old baby who was HIV positive (he's now 20) and then she had her own son (hes now 10) and then adopted two brothers (one of which is 16/not HIV positive and then the other one was HIV Positive). Well, I thought people were educated abot HIV/AIDS in HS.. I know in HS I learned about it in my Health classes.. Ok.. yeah.. apparently thats not the case.. These boys are discriminated against constantly, not only by their peers, but parents and TEACHERS. They've been rejected by their peers, they've had their car tires slashed and other such things. Parents had them banned from the public pool because they didn't want thier kids catching the disease.. WHAT MORONS. What annoys me more are the teachers, the teachers told the one boy, the 16 y/o not HIV positive that he couldn't use certain bathrooms/drinking fountains, ect because his BROTHER is HIV Positive.. umm.. hello.. does that make any sense?! Argh.. that just annoys me. Personally, I don't know anyone HIV positive but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't treat them any differently.. Atleast I know HIV isn't a disease you can get from drinking from the same water fountain/using the same bathroom, hugging, a kiss on the cheek.. argh. I don't understand why they're discriminated against, its just awful adn the fact that the parents and teachers don't even know any better just makes an even worse role model for the children. It's just ridiuclous. I can't understand living today and not being educated on such things. The whole thing about some teachers discriminating against them even made me more angry and the whole being banned from the public pool, its just flat out ridiculous that people take things so far. People can be so ignorant. | | Saturday, May 19th, 2007 | | 2:31 pm |
riding, school, shrek III
On Thursday I had a lesson on Sunbun, it went pretty well but it took sooo much to get him even paying attention and to stop fighting me.. we mainly worked on canter and got quite a few nice round strides.. all about keeping the outside rein tight so he can balance himself! Then after my lesson I was rolling my polo wraps and my instructor was like "look at that horse" he was peeing! shes like "Maybe thats why he was so bad!" (happened a few times before) argh, why can't he just pee before the lesson?! Then I rode Tessa and she was really good! First, I found the saddle she came with.. it had this really thick pad under it so Tuesday I believe it was I rode her with that pad and the saddle didn't fit her too well.. then I was like.. well the thicker the pad the more narrow the tree is going to get and she needs a wide tree since she has like no withers.. sooo Thursday I used one of my saddle pads on her and her saddle hardly slipped! yay, so much easier! haha I was sooo excited after riding her.. we got such a nice slow walk, in both directions, a consistent speed trot going to the left adn to the right was a lot more work but toward the end I finally got a fairly nice, slow trot, then we walked a serpatine.. and I did a change on the diagonal, just walking and she sped up like crazy, several half halts to bring her back to a steady walk.. she just doesn't know how to change.. cuz she doesn't know how to rebalance herself, but we'll get there! We also worked on backing up.. TWICE haha.. we only got like three steps backwards, but its something! And its good because she doesn't like the contact and I thought she would rear up or something like that.. but she didn't even try, stuck her head up a little bit.. but then took a step back hessitently stepped abck again and then another baby step! So it was something! =) We'll work more on that too. Friday my grades came in from school. I've been fretting my Chemistry class because it was soooo hard, the teacher was awful (nice guy, bad professor) I thought I was going to fail the class.. I was praying for a D and got a C! haha Not too good, but not bad, passing, average! haha. Good enough for me, better than a D or a F.. and I got an A in cultural anthropology =). Friday I didn't make it out to the barn.. instead after work I went up to school to return overdue library books.. then went with a couple of my friends to see Shrek III.. it was ok.. I didn't think it was as good as the first or second one.. but it was still good! Its hard when you get into the III's because its hard to beat the one before it.. I'm actually going today to see Spiderman III.. so we'll see how that goes.. I liked Saw III, but again still didn't think it was nearly as good as the second one.. other people thought it was better.. but I didn't.. but atleast it was TERRIBLE.. haha. This morning I went up to the barn and rode Confetti, it was ok, not as good as we normally do, he kept breaking in the canter to the left.. so I had to bring him in and leg yield him out and then ask for the canter and that went pretty well.. no complaints.. it was pretty good. Then I had to wrap Harry's hoof. It's hard to explain what happened.. well I can try.. why not.. I have time waiting for my sister to get here haha.. his owner was walking him in from the pasture and another horse stepped on his hoof/shoe and the shoe came loose and twisted and the clip cut the sole of his hoof.. they said it was bleeding really bad.. the farrier came out and reset his shoe.. Well ANYWAY.. we have to put this black stuff on the cut, then gauze, then vet wrap around the entire hoof and then duct tape.. haha my first time ever wrapping a hoof.. it looked bad, i'm just praying it stays on.. it should I used quite a bit of duct tape.. the one instructor that was there was like "its ok if it looks bad, whenever they look nice they don't stay on nearly as well!" haha. So I guess i'll find out tomorrow when I change the wrap. I guess thats all. =) | | Wednesday, May 16th, 2007 | | 11:09 pm |
So today kinda sucked, After work I went to the barn and wanted to ride before it started to storm, I was rushing to get him tacked up..as soon as I had him completely tacked up, my gloves, helmet, boots, spurs all on, I was about to put his birdle on and it started cracking thunder.. I was like "are you kidding me?!" And it wasn't like thunder in the distance it was the thunder that shakes everything and the wind picked up soooo bad, like I thought it was a hurricaine for a good five minutes, it was ridiuclous. So, I quick untacked sunny and put him back into his stall and then put all my stuff away figuring it wouldn't stop anytime soon, it did about 15-20 minutes later but then I was like ah screw it haha I didn't feel like getting my stuff back out. So I helped bring in the horses, cuz they were bringing them in early but had to stop when it started pouring/thundering/lightening.. so I finished helping them, then left. Then slept for 2 hours, I was beat and my head was pounding, still is actually. ok, thanks to Jara I am going ot try and post my pictures again. haha. ( Here's my photos ) | | Tuesday, May 8th, 2007 | | 4:25 pm |
blah.. so I just heard some "breaking news" that they caught 4 (?) terrorists planning an attack on Fort Dix and to kill as many soliders as they possibly can.... thats heartbreaking to hear. Apparently they had been training in the Poconos and went to buy guns I believe and the FBI/Local Police were tipped by a clerk and they raided the terrorist's homes in Camden (sp), NJ. That's about all I know, atleast they captured them and were one step ahead of them. All this viloence that continues to inundate the media is ridiculous. Children being kidnapped/raped/killed, teachers getting harrased by students because he took their ipod away, teachers (supposed to be children's mentours) and principals selling drugs.. not only in their private life but out of their freaking offices! Oh not to mention the one local principal who wasn't only using crack in his office, selling it out of his office, but caught naked in his office watching gay porno with a student! Oh, did I mention that that was in an elementary school?! I remember being like 12 years old and hearing our town's mayor was part of a drug ring..and was tipping off the drug dealers where the cops would be in exchange for drugs, then all these stories broke out of parents MAKING their kids do and sell drugs (i'm sure after a point it wasn't making and it was a part of their daily lives) its just ridiuclous. And more recently 20/20 has been continuely airing, "To Catch a Predator".. where they've caught paedophiles who are priests, army officers, teachers, its just ridiuclous, even people who have seen the show STILL continue to show up on their doorstep!!!! Then they have the nerve to deny they had any intent on doing anything with the minor. This world just getting more and more ridiuclous | | Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007 | | 4:19 pm |
bored Been kinda busy lately, not really been online much. I have two papers due by saturday :\ its a good thing I have the next two days off! haha. The one should be interesting to write.. about Puerto Rico, my best friend's mom was born and raised in Puerto Rico so I interviewed her =) but her father is also puerto rican and he was born and raised in NY so they actually did the interview together and had some conflicts of interest, so it should be really interesting how it all ties in together! The other one is some art/history project, thats more so just an essay I think like max 2 pages not bad.
As far as riding goes, i've been going up on Sundays finally! I always want to.. but because I work 12am-8am sunday it kinda throws off my day and during the winter I'd like sleep alll day, now cuz its so nice out I can only sleep 4ish hours during the day. So the past two sundays I've actually gotten my lazy ass out of the house to ride. The week before I took Pinasch (one of the lesson horses) on a trail ride w/ my friend and pinasch's buddy, Clover. Clover was calm as ever! Both were pretty well behaved, but Pinasch just got soooo excited! He'd listen for like a second when I told him to halt but just walk right off and when I tried to stop him/back him up again he'd freak out! So I want to get him out and work with him some more just halting when hes excited. Sunny used to be horrible halting in general, but since i've been consistent in working with him hes really good! But I guess the real test will be when we go to a show, his tb brain tends to take over and he gets a little excited.
Then this past sunday I rode Sunbun quick for like a half hour and he was really good! At our last lesson we were learning how to do turn on the haunches.. he got really nervous during the lesson, but again, since i've been consistently working with him with it hes gotten a lot better about it! So hopefully our lesson tomorrrow will go really well. His canter departs were really good too, his canter is coming along, atleast i'm sitting better and not holding as much (i used to tense up and like not breathe haha and just hold too much and he'd go so against me.. so last summer I'd take him out around the pastures and along the back just canter him and just give the reins more.. and did the same inside so i could learn to trust him more and be more comfortable cantering and not be so nervous/tense) so we're starting to get some round moments which is nice! Soon he'll be able to hold it, the better I get at my seat and all that! Then I went with Erin and her horse Brayden on a trail ride around the pastures... it was a really nice ride.
Well I have class.. only like 2 more weeks left.. well tech. 1 then finals. Yay! Then onto summer classes :\

boreeed
Ahh I'm sooo tired, not that I did anything difficult today. Worked nonfoods today (Stocking Health and Beauty shelves) from 6-10. Then I went to the barn around 10:30 ish. The horses don't come in till 4 so I had quite some time to do my barn chores and get riding done. I did feed, water, and refilled grain buckets. Then I went across the street to get two bags of pellets because noone else brings bags over, oh well. No biggy, just start bringing two over at a time, we go threw about one a day. Then I got Sunbun and rode, he was pretty good. We had a descent lesson yesterday. We're starting to have more consisten rides which means i'm becoming more consisten which allows him to be more consistent, so that makes me happy. Its not a constant struggle the entire ride and thats nice! :P Also, riding instructor, Bobbi, said that i've come a long ways over this winter, which is good to hear and you can see it in the horse which is even better =). But yeah, she told me I could ride Confetti today, which was weird because she was going to. I was like ,"no no you ride him, its windy" haha it was extremely windy, at points i thought I was gonna get knocked off of my feet! And let me tell you thats no easy task haha. Then I filled the water troughs and got soaked in the process :( and it was cold, fun fun. Then I stilll only had over 2 hours to spare! haha. I started bringing the horses in around 3:50 ish or so and the person mucking stalls across the street was like ,"I'm not done yet!" I wa slike arrrgggh, I had another barn I had to go to to talk to the owners again before they leave sunday (i'm staying tues-thurs) so I just wanted to get them all in and leave (I was late getting to the other farm btw). I got all the big boys out first and they were morons because of the wind, heaven forbid, apparently they've never seen wind before, or a wheelbarrel, or hay, or their stalls for that matter. lol. After that everyone seemed to calm down and everything else went pretty smoothly, nooone escaped, thats always a plus! haha. Whilst bringing in horses, two of the workers complained that the two outside horse's had no hay (they stay outside all night with two run ins). They were like "we're gonna have to talk to blah blah blah cuz whoever does stalls is supposed to do them" I wa slike "no, its whoever puts them away, its not on anybody's list of chores to do, its always been whoever puts them away feeds them and gives them their hay. I got annoyed because its never their fault its AALWAYS someone elses grrr. Even Cory argued with me! Wtf. I was like "FORGET it i'm here every day i'll do it!" jeezeee its not a big deal. Not to mention the lady who was arguing (yeah well her student) is the one cleaning that paddock area, so if anyone it should be her (but she wasn't the one complaining) argh. People can't take responsibility for anything! Also, I'l ltake responsibility haha. We have horses at every stall that like come from a pipe above the stall and well it runs to the wash stall where there's a hook up and in the back where you turn it on and off I was tunring it off and it was like stuck and I guess I was pushing down on it and umm yeah it snapped ooh so cool. haha. So hopefully thats fixed tomorrow! Otherwise I'll have to drag out the hose (Which is such a pain in the ass to use, the individuals are so much easier). Theennnnnnn I went to the other barn, which have pregnant sheep that are due (only two left the others had their babies, they're freaking adorable I can't wait till I Can take pictures, they're bounding around jumping on mom, mom looking up like help me! haha), rams who look at you suspiciously like they're ready to kill you haha, two horses, three dogs, and four cats. This will be fun! I can't get over how adorable the babies are! The one unfortunately had twins, but they died during the night, so shes hanging out with another mom and her twins and helping her out. This other one had twins and the one lamb wandered away from her not long after birth and was found with the gelding, so shes unfortunately rejecting it. They have to tie her up so that she doesn't butt at the baby and so the baby can nurse. The owner said it'll only be for a little while before she learns to accept them. Feeding time is a frenzy! Everyone is just so excited to eat haha. Then I met two of her neighbors that i'm supposed to call if i have any problems with the horses or the sheep. The one lady has this huge, handsome friesan, hes soooooo gorgeous he just stands like he knows hes beautiful haha. He was so gentle tooooo. This barn has a hottub, I think I'm going to get spoiled! I won't wanna leave! haha. They were like, "shall we show you how to use it?" I was like "well I think the weather is going to bad" they're like "so? thats the best time to use it" (which i've heard before -cough- haha) So i'm excited. Those should be a nice three days! I think thats about it. I'm beaaaat, my eyes are like half closed. | | Thursday, April 5th, 2007 | | 9:02 pm |
Lesson
So it was extremely windy today and it was snowing.. umm it was 70 something on Monday? that doesn't make sense! Argh stupid weather, its so cold. I'm actually avoiding going outside to move my car haha its soo cold ANYWAY, had my lesson today. Sunbun was 20000000000000 x's better than last lessson. We're pretty sure he was just so stubbourn cuz he had to pee haha. Hes so bad when he has to pee. Anway. Today we did a lot of leg yielding on the long way, we've done circles leg yielding but now we're trying it off of the circle, he was ok, rally good going to the left, damn he lifted himself up so much after the lateral work, it was soooo nice! Our canter was ok, we need to work on it. My posistion isn't all that great cantering so when I fix that we'll get better! I was going to ride Confetti but it was sooo windy it was making scary noises in the arena. haha. So I didn't want to backtrack at all and decided just to possibly riding him tomorrow depending on the weather. I helped bring in the horses brrrr it was so cold!!!!! and snowing! haha oh well. Then I went to Petsmart because all Stateline Tack stuff is clearenced cuz they're getting out of the horsey business. I got fly boots for the summer. Sunbun HATES flies and always loses lots of weight and gets real skinny during the summer from stomping the flies, not to mention shoes. Last year he got a really bad crack up the inside of his hoof, and we think that all the stomping and the extra dry weather and his extra straight hoof contributed to the crack. We got this really expensive hoof supplement, save-a-hoof spray and the dressing that we always use oh and White Lightning to put in the crack to make sure he didn't get White line disease -whew- that was a lot of work for one hoof haha. So we're hoping these wraps will help keep the buggers from buggin ghim haha. So they were org. 18.95 marked down to 10.00 and then 33% off so I got a pair of them for 7$. So obviously had to get two packages. 14$! haha I thought that was pretty damn good. So I called my trainer and got some for her horses tooooo. Hopefully this helps! Argh not to mention it better be worth the trip! There was a backup on the highway and it was stop and go traffic all they way there! hahaha let me tell you I am pretty impatient! | | Thursday, March 29th, 2007 | | 7:38 pm |
boyz and horses So I posted this morning "I hate boyz" argh well I still do, and specially this boy inparticular! ARGH hes so ARGH haah No matter how much hes made me cry how much hes upset me I absolutely love everything about him. And no matter how much he pisses me off I can NEVER be mad at him we always act like everything is ok and I don't think they are but I just ignore it and it goes away and we're like friends again. I HATE that sooo much. but w/e. I'm weak what can I say -cough- haha.
So I had a lesson on teh bun today. He was ok, his walk was WONDERFUL, trot was awful. When I brought him back to his stall he peed like immediately so I think thats what it is, usually when he has to pee hes a pain in the ass. Which i dont blame him for I Mean I wouldn't want someone bouncing around on me when I have to pee haha.
Then I rode Confetti and he was WONDERFUL.. I actually got a good canter on him tonight I normally dont do too well and his trot was sooo good, so atleast I had a good ride on him! Bobbi was thrilled so thats always good, I mean it is her horse lol.
Ahh my legs are like on fire i'm in so much pain. lol tommorow is gonna be fun at work. | | 7:37 am |
I hate boyz :) lol. jackasses. | | Monday, March 26th, 2007 | | 11:20 pm |
work/riding/school
So, I worked this morning for a whole four hours! Sweet! lol. then I came home napped.. went riding. Sunbun was pretty good today, I was a little tired so I didn't do much, but he was really good at what we did work on! It was nice out in the outdoor so we rode outside even though it was windy, it was definetly a nice change. Brought the horses in. Atleast the mud is starting to dry up. I dont think I said but last thursday when I went to get sunny, the one day he wouldnt come to me and my shoe got sucked up in the mud :( needless to say my socks got muddy and my shoes.. blah everything. haha So everything is finally hardening up and its supposed to rain again! Went to school. Started doing research for my report for Cultural Anthropology. Then had my 3 hour chem class but he cut it a half hour short. yay. haha. I dont remember the last 45 mins or so of that class.. my head was elsewhere. lol. So I'm wide awake at 11:30 and I have to be up at 5:15 to work at 6. Its supposed to be 70 tommorow! Thats something to look forward to. Hopefully it won't rain until later at night! :) |
